Vicillation is the second in a series of releases featuring improvised drone music using four electric guitars constantly feeding back at the lowest possible volume.
Using a handheld stereo recorder, I moved through the room to discover and explore beams of sound. This movement is crucial and is, effectively, how I am able to "compose" and "mix" the music in an improvised way (though I will infrequently alter the position of the guitars to change the pitch also). Through movement, the focus can be directed to highlight beating, consonance/dissonance, microtones, standing waves, and other acoustic phenomena. This cannot be done if the microphone/s are fixed in position. Similarly, many of these interesting effects are nullified when listening on a single speaker. A system with two speakers far apart or headphones are best.
